Pavol Demitra aside, the biggest off-season acquisition by the Wild may be the free agent signing of Kim Johnsson. Assuming he stays healthy (a BIG if) Johnsson will provide the team with a defenseman who can carry the puck intelligently into the offensive zone, something the Wild have never had. Let me repeat that: the Wild have never had a defenseman capable of carrying the puck into the attacking zone. Filip Kuba who? Johnsson will quarterback the powerplay on most nights and should see his share of assists on Gaborik PP goals. Overpaid at $4M per? Probably, but we had the money to spend.
On a side note, welcome to those visiting the site for the first time. While this blog is not intended to be an analytical game-by-game breakdown of the team, it is one fan’s view of the Wild with some commentary thrown in on guacamole and other tasty snacks.
