XM Gripes

For the last few weeks I've been listening to a cheap XM radio I bought for my aging Accord and I've listened to nothing but hockey talk during both commutes. In connection with that I have the following gripes:

1. I think I've heard the following statement about 1000 times: "No one wants to play ________ in the playoffs. No one." I've literally heard this about Minnesota, Calgary, Vancouver, Nashville, Anaheim and San Jose in the West alone. Get another take.

2. I've also heard Denis Potvin give his daily breakdown of the exciting Flordia Panthers every single frickin' morning. I realize Potvin is an analyst for the team, and he is quite entertaining, but it'd be nice if he just didn't talk about the Panthers so much. I don't care that much about Gary Roberts.

3. The correct pronunciation is "about" not "aboowt".

4. I don't understand why they give soooo much time on the Boomer Gordon show to those doofuses from hockeybuzz.com. I listened to some goofball from Nashville spout cliche after cliche for 20 minutes straight yesterday and don't get me started on Ecklund.

5. This one isn't a gripe, it's actually something I enjoy. Listening to Phil Esposito talk about drinking and having fun with various ladies on the road is good radio. Gotta love Phil.

Now don't get me wrong here, I'm very happy that I've got the opportunity to listen to hockey talk around the clock, but these things were driving me a little batty. I feel better now.

As a avid XM204 listener I enjoyed your take on the Home Ice Chanel.

I grew up watching Espo help bring the cup to Boston so I have a soft spot in my heart for him. But as an radio announcer I often cringe at some of the things that come out of his mouth. I keep finding myself saying…“geez, what a buffoon.” He miscounted names constantly, exhibits a lack of knowledge in most things outside of the Tampa Bay Lightning, and someone really should tell him to take the gum out of his mouth when he’s on air.

Boomer Gordon needs to be on the air more.

I’m ouwt of here.

Good take on Espo, sometimes he is a bit of a trainwreck on the air.

I'm also with you on Boomer; he always has interesting takes and deserves more than an hour of game preview air time.

Yeah...allot of the various personalities that are on XM NHL in my opinion are blowhards who always feel that their opinion is the gospel. The talk can get somewhat repetitive and they all just want to hump Sid Crosby or any of the other young prospects. Aside of Blakeley & Tatti
and perhaps Espo and any one who happens to be joining in with Boomer when he is on, I really just watch the clock spin until somtimes, in the slot... but mostly for Face Off! Boom needs way more involvement & air time (IMO) because everything he ends up saying or discussing IS actually interesting, informative and funny! Good job Boom! You really really make the NHL ch. a good place to tune into...
oh... & the games are'nt bad either.
