Let me start this post by saying that Roberto Luongo is a very good goaltender, in fact, I'd go as far as saying he's the best in the Western Conference this year. He has brought the Canucks back from the dead and should be considered in conversations for the Hart and Vezina trophies.
But let's put it all in persepctive as he approaches Bernie Parent's record of 47 wins in a season by a goaltender. If Luongo sets the record, there should be an asterisk in the record books because of this new overtime system. A significant number of Roberto's victories have come in overtime or via the shoot-out. Parent, and other great goalies of the past didn't have the benefit of this and shouldn't be penalized for not having it.
Take nothing away from Roberto, great season and all, I'm just saying let's calm down a bit before we anoint this as the greatest season ever by a goalie.

I would mention Luongo for the Hart, but I wouldn't crown him the winner, because the team plays so damned well in front of him.
Even in last night's game against the Preds, Luongo didn't have to be great at all.
Good point about the OT and shootout though. There really should be an asterisk there in the books, just to be factual, and to keep on honoring just how amazing Parent's record really is under different rules.
Is that a picture of you off to the side? Why is your eye patched? Are you in a limo?
Explain please.
Dear anonymous,
That picture is of PAVOL DEMITRA.
The fact that you didn't know that speaks volumes about your hockey knowledge.
Please die.
oh
okay, thanks
No Asterisk. No Comparison. No Question.
Luongo is the best ever.
Heh, just kidding. Parent's numbers are outstanding, and all the most impressive considered the time in which he played.
Has Luongo been better than Backstrom this season??? Where would the Wild have been if Backstrom was in net all season and playing the way he has played? Backstrom has better stats all around except the wins and shutouts but when you play like half a season instead of Luongo who plays every game his team plays then you won't get those stats. Of course there is something to be said for the endurance of the season but more to look at then just wins.
Has Luongo been better than Backstrom? In games played yes. But in my opinion I wouldn't give Luongo a clear cut decision over Backstrom at all otherwise.
Luongo has been great at times, but really doesn't face alot of quality shots because of the smothering Canucks' defence.
What? That's Demitra? Get out! haha
Put Backstrom on the Flyers and he would suck ass.
Put Luongo on the Flyers and they are in the playoff hunt.
bullshit!
