The longest-running Minnesota Wild blog
I've got a little child at home. I had to do everything in my power to not come unglued last night. I remember telling my wife. "Thank God I don't have a set behind their bench or I would have killed someone." May get's a match penalty, I'm hoping for a suspension. Wild enforcer Derek Boogaard claimed it was a sucker punch. He was angry because Johnsson never fights."It shows that a guy like Brad May has no respect, so he deserves no respect from anybody," Boogaard said. "And that's how he's going to get treated."But... what about Shawn Thornton jumping in on the fight, not to break up but help, that's pretty cowardly. I know a ref can blow a call now and then. But, HOLY SH*T. This is getting out of control. There needs to be an investigation and suspension follow up.
I want to add this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1uP1HRQet-QIt's Boogaard taking care of business on Ferduk.Oh and here's another great duck beating. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FyULIoEP9ew
I know a ref can blow a call now and then. But, HOLY SH*T. I'm not here to defend May in any way, I'd guess he gets seven games (though I'm hearing one? that's crazy). But really, how was there a blown call?Didn't he get thrown out of the game pending suspension? Thornton also?May is a punk, but we knew that when we got him. Thornton I'm iffy on, he definitely shouldn't have been in there, but I guess I know what he was thinking.Still, we're throwing terms around like "coward" and "disrespect", but let's see how Boogaard responds before we get up all on our high horses.Good to see the Wild show up last night though, sorry the end turned out so ugly.
I can handle the refs blowing the brawl calls. That's hockey, it happens. In the end, the players will keep things even. The one that got me was the lame no goal call. Ref claims a man in the crease - ridiculous. How can you call that unless someone is on top of the goalie? I know that would have made the score 5-1 whit the game already in hand, but these refs were horrible last night.
The one that got me was the lame no goal call. Yeah, that was perplexing to me as well. Thankfully that didn't turn out to be that important, because I really couldn't figure that out myself. The Anaheim announcers said it was because "a skate was in the crease", which I thought hadn't been a rule since Brett Hull broke it in 2000. If it wasn't a case of goalie interference (which it clearly wasn't), then it should have been a goal.
If May's suspension is 1 game that's ridiculous. I'm with Earl, at least 7. Thornton should also get 1. The suspensions won't mean much for the Wild, though. May is not an important cog for them and some other goon will take his place.Regarding the non-goal, that was insane. I'm hoping it would've been reviewed if the game had been closer.
The NHL is frickin' weak, they picked the absolute shortest possible suspension (3 games) that would ensure that there would be no Boogaard retribution.Avoiding that scene is fine, but to only make it the bare minimum? That strongly suggests that the NHL would have liked to have given him less for the incident, and that's pretty b.s.My take, anyway.
It's nice that Boogaard finds the time to talk to the press between throwing knees at people. That's not to say his comments aren't true in this case, just funny that he's the one to talk about cheap shots.
Bryce, you're actually buying that nonsense that Hayseed is feeding you? He's a moron. He keeps showing these replays where Boogaard is supposedly *throwing* his knees, *because that's what Boogaard does* but it's bullshit. The two replays he keeps talking about were not *thrown* knees. And if you want to put those on any kind of comparison with May sucker-punching a 180lb non-fighter with a bare fist...Which makes me wonder, who on the Ducks must answer for May now since he's out? I havn't seen such an embarrassing display from a hockey team in a long time, especially one that like to think they're *tough*. First Perry jumps in when Burns and Getzlaf were tussling (got his ass handed to him too), then Thornton, then May sucker punches a 180lb non-fighter? Matt Cooke has bigger balls than these pussies.
Oh, and I don't think we actually have a series unless the Wild win tonight and go back to St. Paul with a chance to tie the series. That would put some real pressure on the Ducks. Right now, they're still in survival mode.
The two replays he keeps talking about were not *thrown* knees.Maybe not, but the fact that we have to get technical about it is still somewhat telling. Boogaard is making his runs, same as most fighters, clean or dirty they still have their purpose.I haven't seen such an embarrassing display from a hockey team in a long time, especially one that like to think they're *tough*.Probably you mean that you haven't seen it happen to the Wild, but these kind of displays, sadly, aren't really that new or as rare as I would like to see. Yeah, the Ducks made some bad decisions in terms of 'toughness', but I don't think it's deserving of all the hyperbole. If there were no Brad May, the rest could probably be found in any playoff tussle.Matt Cooke has bigger balls than these pussies. Emotionalism and nonsense like this don't do a lot to drive your point home.
One word: Boogaard. You're just as hypocritical as Leaf fans sporting Darcy Tucker and getting mad at a hit on Kaberle.Scratch Boogy and then cry about other teams' enforcers. And enjoy the "series" you think you now have. the fat lady is practicing her scales.
But there's the difference. A hit in the corner where the knee comes up, actually it's Boogaard's hip and he leaves his feet sometimes, might be seen a cheap. But effective. Where you'll find Derek being the bigger man than May in this is he won't just punch someone for the sake of it, when they are just standing there. I've been glass side, I've seen him fight, he'll ask, "Let's go" If they don't want to, he leaves it alone. Johnsson is out for the remainder of the season should the Wild go on or not. 3 games is NOTHING, there should be at least a fine involved. And sorry Carlye needs to watch the friggin game. As he claims what happened between May and Johnsson was a fair fight.
I'm with Sleek here. Take the Brad May incident out of the equation and you've got a typical playoff dust-up. I've seen this played out many, many times.Having said that, the May suspension is ridiculous. It should have been at least 7, if not 10.I'm back-pedaling a bit here, but I also agree with Toivo. We won't really have a series unless there's a game 6. Get it back here on Saturday and all bets are off. Lose tonight and we shut up.
Matt Cooke has bigger balls than these pussies. oh snap
There's a difference between trying to hit somebody and throwing a knee. The claim that Boogaard is throwing a knee on the Huskins play where he's coming around the net is just plaing wrong if you watch. Boogaard is skating through and Huskins tries to get out of the way, but his feet don't quite make it. Boogaard did in no way extend out his leg. The other one with Neidermeyer, there's more of an argument, because when Neidermayer turns, Boogaard tries to turn as well and his knee does go out, but you can't say if he's just trying to turn or if he's trying to throw a knee. I think if he was really trying to throw a knee he could have just kept skating hard right through Neidermayer. And again, this isn't even anywhere close to what May did. And since this is just like any typical NHL playoff scrum, maybe you can tell me when somebody else cold-cocked a 180lb guy who's got his gloves on. I've watched plenty of playoff hockey over the years and nothing really comes to mind.
And what? Calling a pussy a pussy in terms that any hockey fan can understand is too indelicate?
And since this is just like any typical NHL playoff scrum, maybe you can tell me when somebody else cold-cocked a 180lb guy who's got his gloves on.I guess I'll say it again, maybe this time with emphasis. If there were no Brad May, the rest could probably be found in any playoff tussle.
I think it's a bit too easy to say "take Brad May out of it" and it's just the same old stuff. Fine, but the guy is wearing a Ducks jersey--a guy Burke got at the trading deadline and I guess we know why now. First the Bertuzzi thing and now this. Burke and May are compiling quite the list of accomplishments.
