January Thaw

Yes, it has been a while. I've got no excuses for the prolonged delay, let's just call it blogging burnout. Anyhoo, I'm back to blog some more now.

I'm sure people have thought about this, but I've got a new spin on the Marian Gaborik fiasco. Sure, he's untradeable now, and sure, they should've signed or traded him before the season. But let's look at the bright side, shall we? For speculation let's say the Wild were offering him $8.0m per year over 5 years and Marian turned it down. Doesn't that mean that the team will have that much money to spend on a free agent this upcoming summer? Couldn't the Wild use this $8.0m on the likes of a Marian Hossa or other dynamic player?

I took a look at www.nhlnumbers.com and it says that the team has $37.2m committed to next year, with a cap of around $50m. Yes, they have to sign some key guys like Backstrom and some defensemen, but they should still have some serious money to spend.

So what I'm saying is fret not, Wild fans. Even when Marian leaves after the season he can be replaced. Whether or not DR spends up to the cap is another story.
